Poor Richard's started business in 1997 following Dick Moffat's early retirement from teaching.  Our intention is to stock as much as we can and cover as many areas as we can - emphasising the 'cheap and cheerful' and the 'best kept for the collector'.

Our two floors of books in nine areas elicit surprise frm the newcomer to the shop and our biggest problem is finding what we think we have... somewhere

Children's Books...

Poetry...

Everything from...

Blyton to Biggles

Duncan to Oxenham

Ransome to Tolkien

Greenaway to Rackham

From 19th century to more modern collectables, as well as a large stock of inexpensive readers.

East Anglia

We specialise in Suffolk and East Anglia material, both the very collectable and the freely available; similarly we try to stock as much as possible to cover the UK, and where possible the rest of the world.

A recent purchase includes about twenty books on Hawaii!

And...

We also stock some ephemera, including post~cards, records and pictures.

Our stock extends to some 50,000 books on as wide a range of subjects as we have room for, and currently there are nine rooms.

First Editions

A large quantity of modern first editions in fiction, though the 'modern' begins in the 19th. century. Recent highlights include:

3 separate 1st editions of 'Animal Farm' by George Orwell, 1st Canadian, 1st USA and 1st UK illustrated;

M.R.James 'The Five Jars'

Signed and inscribed copy of 'Sentimental Tommy' by J.M. Barrie

James Hanley 'Say Nothing'.

In the shop

Many of these titles are listed on Abebooks, but ten times as many are not. Similarly, we stock many current and classic literature paperbacks.

A fair amount of our more expensive material is not immediately available in the shop, but can be easily viewed if you ask. We accept credit cards, cheques, payments by Paypal, and of course we love cash!
